Hyundai was presented with the “Car of the Year 2008” award for the Hyundai i30 during an event celebrated at ABC headquarters. The event was presided over by the Minister of Industry, Joan Clos, and the President of the Region of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre. The minister presented the award to the President of Hyundai Motor Europe, Kun Hee Ahn. Top management members from Vocento and Grupo Bergé were present, including the group’s president, Jaime Gorbeña. Practically all the most important automobile brands were represented, as well as the specialised press.
The Hyundai i30 was chosen as “Car of the Year in Spain” by ABC newspaper thanks to the support given by the journalists who comprised the panel of judges. The i30 was awarded 220 points, while second place was awarded to the Fiat 500 with 52 points, followed by the Ford Mondeo with 36 points. This is the first time an Asian brand achieves this distinction, proving the important advances Hyundai has made in recent years in technology and quality.
