The Paris Motor Show in 2012 witnessed the world launch of a high technology vehicle that became the pioneer in a new segment: the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The new plug-in hybrid SUV with four-wheel drive was, all of a sudden, the solution to the so-called “range anxiety” (52 kilometres), while also adding the day-to-day convenience of a car from its segment and a load capacity of 463 litres in the boot.
European customers responded enthusiastically, lifting the PHEV to become the leader of pluggable hybrids in many markets, including those with powerful automotive industries like the German one. Also, other high level public figures, such as the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, openly promoted the qualities of the new Outlander PHEV MY16 in the past Tokyo Motor Show, causing a new wave of positive communication regarding this car.
In Europe, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV represents 15% of the total sales volume of the brand and 55% of total Outlander sales (January/November 2015). It has sold 591 units since it went on sale in Spain, leading the registration of PHEV vehicles in our market.
